What is the course about?

This course will familiarise you with the main operating features of Windows 2003, the desktop, application windows and display setting. It will give you the ability to manage files and organise folders.

What topics will we cover?

Features of the computer desktop
Using icons and toolbars
Customising the desktop
Windows - component parts, opening, resizing, closing, arranging
Working with files in Windows Explorer
File structures
Using the operating system's Help function
Searching for files

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Identify the various components of a computer desktop
Recognise the most commonly used icons and toolbars
Arrange desktop icons and make changes to desktop settings such as background, colour and screen saver
Open, resize and close windows
Understand the main working environment of Windows Explorer
Copy, move, rename. delete and sort files
Create a file structure
Format and backup to a floppy disk
Search for a file
Use the operating systems Help function

What level is the course?

Though this course is aimed at beginners, you are expected to have knowledge of the keyboard, mouse and basic word processing experience.

How will I be taught?

Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

Will I have a chance to give my views on the course?

Yes, please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
