Deaf degree

Our BA Deaf Studies Degree is a 3-year long programme, which offers training to potential communicators, teachers and Interpreters.
Covering multi-faceted and associated issues within Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, BSL development and Interpreter Training, the Degree is a major stepping-stone on route to the above careers.
Students can exit the programme with a Higher education certificate, the equivalent of the old CSW qualification. In year 2, students decide on pathways which will take them towards either CSW training/teaching or Interpreter training.
The programme run and owned by the City Lit was previously jointly-run with Middlesex University. Middlesex University now ratify the Degree and are responsible for its quality assurance. This means that the course can be developed by the team and constantly improved and upgraded.
Teaching and learning takes place in lectures, tutorials, discussions, during placement and simulated in-class interpreting assignments and interpreting practice.
The team has wide and relevant experience within the field and are committed to making the teaching and learning environment within the Degree, a stimulating, enjoyable and rewarding one.
The Degree offers a theoretical grounding and covers a wide variety of aspects of Deaf studies, BSL and Sign Language Interpreting.
