What is the course about?

This course is for deaf people with learning difficulties

What topics will we cover?

- learn everyday vocabulary:
- numbers
- days of the week
- months of the year
- news
- countries and languages
- places (e.g. Post Office, College, flat, house)
- parts of the body
- family members
- food
- weights (e.g. kilo, gram)
- measures (e.g. metr

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- fill in forms with your details
- read everyday words and notices
- spell words you need to use on a day-to-day basis
- talk (sign) about subjects that interest you in class

What level is the course?

Pre-entry Level

How will I be taught?

Classwork, pairwork and working on your own
- fingerspelling for spelling practice
- simple worksheets, flashcards, communication games (matching words and pictures), interactive whiteboard, OHP
- visits outside
- the tutors use BSL with some SSE

Are there any other costs (e.g. certification, materials, equipment or books I need to buy)?

Picture dictionary
English dictionary (elementary)
Bi-lingual dictionary (English and your first language) if you need this

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
