What is the course about?

You will learn how to give a full Indian Head massage. This is a professionally recognised qualification which will enable you to add these exciting new techniques to your existing treatments, or use it as a therapy on its own. Useful when treating clients who do not wish to receive a full body massage.
Additional Information
You should be aware that a minimum of 80% attendance is necessary to complete the course. You are also expected to participate to the best of your ability and to adhere to the colleges Equal Opportunities Policy while undertaking the course. The policies of the college will be discussed during the first session.Please note that you are required to hold a current First Aid certificate to be able to work as a bodywork therapist.
Due to the nature of this course, you will not be entitled to transfer to a different course after the course has started.

What topics will we cover?

- Details on the bones / nerves / blood vessels and lymphatics of the cranium and face.- History, Benefits and contraindications of Indian Head Massage.- Skin and scalp conditions- A full Indian Head Massage treatment- Core subjects

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Give a full Indian Head Massage treatment- Be able to Recognise Skin and scalp conditions- Be able to take case histories- Be able to design client consultation forms- Meet the standard required by ITEC to use this treatment professionally.

What level is the course?

ITEC Level 3

To gain entry to this course you will need to have successfully completed the ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma or the ITEC Anatomy & Physiology Diploma and the Business Skills Component. You should also regularly be practising massage, and have kept up to date on anatomy and physiology.

For application for this course, you will need to fill in an application form.

Applications will be assessed and successful applicants will be offered a place. Please contact the Health and Movement Studies office or advice and guidance for an application form, or download it from the link above.

Students with any of the listed medical conditions should attach written letters of approval from their GP with their application form. Without these letters, any consideration for acceptance onto a course can be denied. It will also be at the discretion of the tutor team and head of programme whether candidates are suitable for placement.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by demonstrations from the tutor, pair work, group work and through role play. You will also be asked to draw and label diagrams.

Are there any other costs (e.g. certification, materials, equipment or books I need to buy)?

- You will need to wear a white uniform and supply a set of white towels for the practical examination. The tutor will provide information on reading on the course. - You will need to bring your own oil and towels for use on the course. Those wishing to practice professionally and who have not studied massage should also undertake the Business Skills Course.- The exam fee is included in the cost. This fee is non-refundable and the exams must be taken on the dates set by the institute. You must have an up-to-date First Aid Certificate before you take the examinations for this course. There is a First Aid course programme at the City Lit, should you wish to join a course here.Join one of our practical workshops if you wish to do supervised practical work outside your set course hours.

What feedback will I get?

Assessment will be through completing practical and written tasks on the course. You will be asked to self assess and the tutor will provide you with feedback on your progress.
ExaminationsThere will be a practical and written examination and you will be asked to complete 3 case studies. Oral questions at the discretion of the practical examiner. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

Will I have a chance to give my views on the course?

Yes, please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
